How your data is used
Updated October 3, 2026
Operator and contact
This service is operated by ZHIMIN CHEN (Alan Chen) as an individual. For privacy questions or deletion requests, contact learnbyreading@chenschan.com.
Account and sign-in
Clerk handles Google and email sign-in, including verification codes, sign-in sessions and account security settings. This site stores an internal account identifier, your email address and its link to your Clerk identity. The website uses sign-in cookies. The extension synchronizes your signed-in session through Clerk and obtains short-lived credentials to access your data; access stops after you sign out or revoke the session.
Saved articles and passage discussions
When you click “Save” in the extension, or add an article on the website and confirm saving it, the server stores the source URL, title and cleaned article text. When retrieving an article from a link, the server accesses the original website and passes the page to a browser to extract a preview; an unconfirmed preview is not written to your library. Images continue to load from the original site. We do not store copies of images, video or audio. Once you select a passage and start a discussion, the server stores the passage location, questions, replies and AI explanations so you can return to the original text and continue. Simply browsing a webpage does not create a saved article or discussion.
To generate explanations and exercises, the selected text and necessary context, along with conversation content, are sent through Vercel AI Gateway to OpenAI models for processing. Do not save or submit content you do not want these services to process. Your articles and discussions are not published as public webpages or search index content.
Historical data from earlier versions
The earlier assessment and practice entry points have been retired. Previously generated capability profiles, assessment records, practice activities and quality samples are temporarily retained within your account and are not used in the new passage exercises. The current interface does not let you review these historical records. Associated data is deleted when you delete your account.
Service usage and feedback
The server records account-associated AI service types, models, times, token usage and available cost information for internal accounting. These records do not store articles, questions or answers. The account association is removed after account deletion. Questions and suggestions previously submitted through the on-site form retain their content, time and account identifier and are deleted with the account. On-site feedback submission has now stopped; please send questions and suggestions by email. Support emails are not written to the on-site feedback table.
Optional website analytics
Only after you consent, Google Analytics uses analytics cookies to measure page visits, traffic sources, device categories, external link clicks and the actual display of new replies. Private pages are grouped by page type. Article titles, article text, selected passages, conversations, email addresses and account identifiers are not sent, and advertising personalization is not enabled. Google may process this information in different countries.
User-level and event-level data is retained for 14 months; aggregate reports may be retained longer. You can refuse or withdraw consent through “Analytics preferences” at the bottom of each page. Withdrawal stops future collection and clears this site's analytics cookies; it does not automatically delete previously processed reports. Refusal does not affect use of the service. Your analytics choice is independent of sign-in status. Analytics cookies are retained for at most 180 days.
Payments
Autumn manages subscriptions and membership status, and Stripe processes payments. This site stores necessary customer and purchase associations, but does not store full payment card numbers. When you delete your account, subscriptions are canceled, your personal learning data on this site and your Clerk sign-in identity are deleted. Payment customer records and necessary transaction records are retained for billing, refunds and dispute handling and are not deleted with your account. If payment or cancellation processing is still incomplete, this site retains only the relevant identifiers, processing progress and necessary deletion markers to continue handling it; payment follow-up does not require retaining learning content. Stripe's transaction records follow its Privacy Policy.
Deletion and sign-out
You can delete an individual saved article and its passage discussions, or delete a discussion separately. Account settings support signing out of the current device, signing out of all devices, and permanently deleting your account and personal learning data. Necessary payment records are handled as described above; account deletion does not automatically issue a refund. Uninstalling the extension removes its local storage. Support email records are outside the scope of automatic on-site account deletion; contact us by email if you need help with them.
Processing boundaries
Service operation, sign-in and model processing rely on services including Cloudflare, Clerk, Autumn, Stripe, Vercel, Google and OpenAI. Third-party logging and data processing are subject to their policies. AI output may contain errors; explanations and feedback are not guaranteed to always be correct.
